NYC by a local

As a resident of NYC, I know how intimidating and complicated Gotham can seem. So I’d like to take a moment to offer up some suggestions for visitors on apps that will make for a smoother trip.

HopStop Transit Directions Map

The public transportation system in NYC is massive and complicated, and hopstop demystifies it. It not only gives you the most direct bus or subway option to your endpoint, it also accounts for any construction or train re-routing that may be happening.

Time Out New York

This magazine is on every coffee table of every 20-30 something I know, and with good reason. It’s a one stop shop to let you know what’s going on in music, theatre, dance, nightlife, anything you can think of and more. This app will help you get the most out of your visit.

Coffee Finder

Besides wanting a good cup of coffee, there’s another important reason to know where Starbucks can be found. Public bathrooms are scarce in this city, and almost every Starbucks has one.

I’ve been using the web version of menupages for years to help me find awesome eats in the city, and the mobile app is just as useful. You can choose restaurants based on cuisine, reviews, distance, and even view full menus all in one app.

TKTS is a nyc institution offering steeply discounted day-of tickets to some of broadway’s best shows. Because theatre is more fun when it costs less.
