Aloha! My parents retired to Maui and I have visited the Hawaiian Islands at least once a year for the past 15 years. Here are some apps I use to get around Honolulu.
This free app has breaking news, weather, photos, sports, and up to the minute info for all of Hawaii. Nice interface, works smoothly. It only has the latest news so not useful if you are not caught up – would be better if it cached that!
TheBus – Honolulu: AnyStop
This free app lets you search the bus schedule in Honolulu. You can search by route or by stop, or use the GPS to find your closest stop and best route. Very accurate. Only one major flaw – it does not follow the weekend/holiday schedule when applicable so watch out!
This app costs US$9.99. It is a full illustrated guide book for all of Hawaii optimized for Android. It’s got a Hawaiian phrasebook built in, as well as maps, detailed history, customs and culture, laws, and all the travel stuff (hotels, camping, beaches, restaurants, shopping, activities, etc!). Excellent.
This free app is an excellent insider’s view of all of Hawaii from a local perspective. It goes beyond the internet or guidebooks and gives deep history and background and answers to questions about Hawaii. It will help you see Honolulu with new eyes. Recommend.
Hawaii Traffic Cams
Excellent app – works great. Free, and lets you see live images from all the traffic cams in Hawaii. This app has saved me countless hours. New cams added all the time. Recommend.
