I’m originally from Ithaca, NY and have spent a lot of time in Philadelphia. I was just there last year and found stuff I never knew was there using these apps.
Philadelphia Concert Hub
This free app has a smooth, easy UI for finding upcoming concerts in the Philly area. You can search by date, see what’s happening tonight, or search by artist and venue.
This is an AWESOME app that lets you see Philadelphia in a new way. It uses augmented reality to show you the history of thousands of sites. It shows you historic photos superimposed over what’s there currently, over 93,000 of them. A lot of public funding went into this app and a lot of Philly historical associations were involved. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
Philadelphia Local News
This app has quick access and an easy UI showing all the major news sources in Philadelphia. Also very easy to share articles via email. Impressively comprehensive.
Philadelphia Real Estate
This app lets you search homes for sale (ALL of them!) in Philly and surrounding areas. IT also lets you see the prices of recently sold homes. It also has a rental search feature. The GPS search will show you available properties for rent/sale near you. It lets you save your favorites, and also lets you call a realtor with one touch. It’s the most impressive real estate app I’ve seen for any city. Recommend.
Offi – Journey Planner
This is an amazingly detailed free public transportation app that works in cities all over the world. The only two US cities are SF and Philadelphia – and it works really well for Philadelphia. Great UI, very accurate. It has departure times, nearby stations (GPS enabled), directions, route maps, and lets you plan out and compare routes.
