New Android apps worth downloading: Facebook, Spotify and Temple Run 2 updates

We’ve got a series of big updates for great Android apps on today’s Apps Worth Downloading list. Up first is an update to the Facebook app, which already allows users to access all the great elements of the social network, and now adds elements from Facebook Home. Second, we have an update to music streaming app Spotify that includes bug fixes and new language translations. Finally, there’s an update to Temple Run 2, one of the best endless runner titles out there, which allows players to unlock Olympic athlete Usain Bolt as a playable characters.

Facebook update (Free)

What’s it about? Connect to the biggest social network in the world from wherever you are with Facebook’s Android app, which the company continues to update to make better.

What’s cool? Facebook brings you the full functionality of the social network’s web component to your mobile device. It lets you see view and upload photos, send messages to other users, find friends and see what they’re doing, post status updates and view various Facebook pages, all with the same ease and speed you’d get on your computer. The app also carries a lot of cool additional features, like the ability to instantly sync your Android photos to your Facebook account and other handy capabilities. The latest update to Facebook adds a feature from the Facebook Home app – you can use the app to show status updates and other notifications from Facebook on your Android device’s home screen.

Who’s it for? If you’re an avid Facebook user, there are just too many useful features not to grab this app.

What’s it like? Other great social networking apps include Twitter and Instagram.

Spotify update (Free)

What’s it about? Streaming music service Spotify allows users to listen to any of millions of tracks across an Internet connection

What’s cool? Spotify has a huge database of songs, all of them available to listen to across an Internet connection. Subscribers to Spotify get access to all its songs on its mobile apps for Android and iOS, as well as the ability to listen to songs offline, share them with friends, and create and sync larger playlists. The latest update to Spotify throws in curated playlists under a new “Browse” section, and adds language translations for Thai, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish and Malay, as well as fixes a bunch of bugs for better performance.

Who’s it for? Spotify Premium users will want to grab this one, as well as anyone looking for a great music-streaming service.

Temple Run 2 update (Free)

What’s it about? Race through ancient temples and evade huge, angry gorilla monsters in third-person endless runner Temple Run 2.

What’s cool? Temple Run 2 basically set the standard for third-person running titles. With the camera set behind the character, players run through fast-paced levels filled with coins and with huge gorilla monsters in close pursuit. As you race through the game, you’ll need to jump over obstacles or slide beneath them, as well as snag coins that can be used to purchase upgrades, and use tilt controls to avoid holes in the path. There are a number of unlockable characters players can earn as they play through the game. Temple Run 2’s newest update adds a new playable character, Olympic athlete Usain Bolt, that players can earn and unlock during gameplay.

Who’s it for? If you like endless running titles, Temple Run 2 is among the best – not to mention that it’s the first game that includes Usain Bolt.
