Monsters Ate My Condo fulfills your gaming appetite

Jun 21, 2012

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has a knack for making over-the-top games. Their previous title, Robot Unicorn Attack, took two unlikely recipes and created surprisingly fun gameplay. While you won’t find a lovely soundtrack here, Monsters Ate My Condo delivers the same crazy-injected gameplay that appeases all the right taste buds.

As the title describes, the game revolves around monsters, eating and condos. The mixture of these three things is sure to result in much head scratching, but strange as it sounds, the name fits. With its overuse of flashing colors and frantic music, playing Monsters Ate My Condo is akin to stepping inside the dreams of a sugar-raged child.

Beneath its whacked-out surface lies an incredibly deep and addicting puzzle game. Players who’ve played Jenga (or its digital version) will find the game somewhat familiar. As floors fall from the sky, gamers are tasked to stack the same colored stories. Swiping left and right removes a floor and stacking three of the same stories will swap one of the two creatures that flanks both sides of the structure. Each creature is given a constantly depleting “appetite meter” and can only be refilled by swiping the matching colored story or stacking the same color. Swipe a different colored block and the bar decreases more quickly.

As soon as player get acquainted with the general gameplay, the difficulty quickly ramps up. Bricks, bombs and an additional colored story will result in frenzied stack managing. Unlike most games in this genre, there’s never any down-time for you to plan your next move.

Monsters Ate My Condo’s visuals are nothing unique. However, its artwork is incredibly zany and so far out that it begs the question: what were the developers thinking? The character design is simply outrageous. From a robot controlled by a chihuahua floating on its body, to a unicorn fashioned in a leotard, it’s strange but incredibly humorous.

Priced at $0.99, Monsters Ate My Condo is a steal. Beneath its visually arresting style lies a fun and addicting game. If you’ve been craving for a fresh new title, Monsters Ate My Condo is sure to suit your tastes.
