Cooking is an exhilarating experience for me, and I expect my cooking apps to have a little spice and everything nice to make the experience all the more delectable. Unfortunately, the free 170,000-plus Recipes BigOven app has a lot of love for quantity and a lot less love for quality app design. The type on the app home screen is hard to read and literally lacks any kind of design and organization.
Other than the massive amounts of recipes available, this app’s second-best feature is the BigOven Leftover Whiz. Simply enter three key ingredients you have on hand, and the app will suggest some of the thousands of recipes that you could potentially make for dinner.
This app is also great for locating a recipe on the fly, especially if you’re dealing with picky eaters and need lots of options. A simple search for shrimp returned 2,745 recipes. If that overwhelms you, try the random recipe option or check out the “What’s for dinner tonight?” feature that lists real-time samples of what people around the world are making for supper.
Where other apps might lack quantity of recipes, BigOven makes up for it. But other cooking apps have delicious interfaces and handy easy-to-use features, and BigOven does not. Give this app a redesign, and it might make my must-have list.
