Zinio’s digital magazine hub extending support for Android phones running 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread. At launch, Zinio’s Android app only supported Honeycomb tablets, sticking to a certain demographic already well established with the rise of the iPad. A month after releasing its Android app, Zinio reports “tens of thousands of immediate downloads,” encouraging additional versions for more Android devices.

The digital publishing realm has seen its ups and downs, but pushes onward as connected devices become more prevalent. Proper pricing and marketing will also be a key factor in the industry’s ultimate success, with Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), and now Google, offering their own hubs for digital print media. Zinio’s taking advantage of today’s launch to run a promotion of its own, extending 12 free current issues to popular magazine titles through August 15th. BlackBook, ESPN, House Beautiful and Robb Report are just a handful of the titles you’ll bet for free. T-Mobile users get an extra perk, with 5 more free titles through the carrier’s “Freemium” offering.
