If you’re a fan of music and rhythm games like Dance Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero, then you’ll probably enjoy DJ Rivals. What is essentially a simplified touch screen version of the game DJ Hero offers a free and unique experience that shouldn’t be missed.

The game has an adventure mode in which you build up your DJ, increasing his level and stats by battling and completing quests. The gameplay is very simple, and it’s hard to actually miss an attack once you get the hang of it. You can also buy better turn-tables, which give you more health.

The game makes use of Google Maps to find real world places near your location, which you can actually enter to face enemies. Only the names of the locations are used, but it’s a fun little addition. DJ Rivals is a freemium game, featuring in-app-purchases for better equipment, among other things, using a currency called Ice, also known as diamonds to the rest of the world. You can buy large quantities of Ice in game, or build it up slowly through gameplay.

Something that made me really angry about this game is that you use energy points to battle, and can’t battle or do anything really once you run out. It’s like a Facebook game in that way, but I just can’t stand it. I see no reason the game has to force me to wait to play it. Also, the battles get pretty stale and boring after a while. Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing music and rhythm games my entire life, but the gameplay is just too simple for me.

In the end, though, it’s still a fun game that you don’t have to pay a dime to play. The art is colorful, and makes the game stand out. Being a music game, the soundtrack is pretty great too. If this is your kind of game, give it a download.Download the free Appolicious Android app
